LOCATION, location, location. We were thrilled to have been offered use of an empty storefront… right in the middle of town on the main road AND next door to the local newspaper. Nothing like adding a little humor to the job of opening up an Obama Headquarters in a small NE Michigan town. We jumped in, everyone pitching in whatever they could spare: paint, nails, tables, floor tiles… anything and everything. In less than a week we had our fist event. People were already streaming in the door looking for signs, materials, to volunteer and just to say they were glad we were there. |

Iosco County was surprised when we were assigned a field organizer from the Obama Campaign. Imagine little old us out in the middle of “no where” being important enough for a representative! Little did we know how much WORK that was going to be, but what the heck…
Kyle Riggs rolled into town in the middle of July and spent most of the summer jumping between our location and West Branch, meeting everyone and making his connections in order to get phone banks and canvassing going. He probably felt like banging his head into the wall on more than one occasion trying to get a fire lit under us, but we hope he was satisfied with our performance. We certainly grew fond of Kyle. (You probably could hear the cheer across town when it was announced that McCain had given up on Michigan!) |
